The Northern Ugandan Media Club (NUMEC) is pleased to announce a new grant opportunity for journalists to report on women, children and land rights and climate justice in northern Uganda. The grant is meant to equip journalists in northern Uganda to tell impactful stories concerning marginalised groups as well as the communities that continue to bear the brunt of the injustices and climate change effects—not just environmentally but socially, economically and politically.
Selection criteria
- Quality of one’s pitch based on aspects such as relevance and impact.
- Proof of previous stories, preferably those related to the aforementioned theme.
- Recommendation letter and story samples.
Requirements and expectations
- A recommendation letter from your editor showing commitment to producing the story, supported by the grant.
- Produce a well-researched, quality story that shows impacts on the said themes—preferably with a solutions lens.
- Complete and publish the story within a period of four weeks from the time the grant is given.
- All forms of journalistic media genres are accepted.
- Female journalists are especially encouraged to apply.
Your pitch must be submitted together with all the supporting documents as one PDF file, including the following:
- Full Name
- Contact
- Phone number
- Working title of your story
- What the story is about
- Why the story is relevant/significant
- Detailed budget and timelines
- Links/sample of similar work in the past
- Letter from your editor/supervisor/affiliation
