Journalists in Northern Uganda just like the rest of Uganda face many challenges in delivering quality and
accurate information that empowers local communities with adequate and reliable information to engage in meaningful development processes. The presence of ‘low-quality journalism practitioners’
witnessed in both the mainstream and online digital platforms threatens to undermine the quality,
accuracy, and reliability of development information that is required for the growth and enjoyment of civil and human rights.
A reset of this phenomenon to ensure quality, accurate and reliable reporting in ways that address the quality of journalists in terms of skills, knowledge, innovation, creativity, and depth of understanding of key development issues is the challenge that NUMEC seeks to address in this strategic plan.
